Anxiety distorts your world—therapy helps you take it back.

It can be relentless. Thoughts circling. Chest tight. Always planning, preparing, bracing. And sometimes, others don’t see it. You may seem composed on the outside while feeling anything but calm on the inside.

  • Excessive worry about everyday situations
  • Irritability or frequent tension
  • Restlessness or feeling constantly on edge
  • Muscle tightness and physical discomfort
  • Difficulty concentrating or your mind going blank
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Overthinking conversations or decisions
  • Avoiding situations that feel out of your control

If this sounds familiar to you, counselling can help you understand why your body and mind are reacting the way they are, and how to work with it instead of against it.

Anxiety can show up in ways like:

Types of Anxiety We Support

Anxiety looks different for everyone.
At Narra Counselling, we work with a range of anxiety experiences, including:

Characterized by persistent, excessive worry that is difficult to control, GAD often centers around everyday concerns like work, health, family, or finances. Even when there is no immediate threat, the worry can feel constant and overwhelming, affecting both mental and physical well-being.

Involves sudden and intense episodes of fear or discomfort known as panic attacks. These episodes may include symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain, sweating, or a feeling of losing control. Panic disorder can make daily life feel unpredictable and exhausting.

This form of anxiety is rooted in a strong fear of being judged, embarrassed, or rejected in social or performance situations. Individuals with social anxiety may avoid public speaking, social gatherings, or even everyday interactions due to intense self-consciousness and fear of scrutiny.

This type of anxiety involves intense fear of a particular object or situation, such as flying, heights, needles, or animals. The fear is often out of proportion to the actual danger but can cause avoidance that disrupts everyday life.

Health anxiety is a constant worry about having or developing a serious illness. Even when medical reassurance is given or symptoms are minor, the fear persists. This can lead to frequent health checks, doctor visits, and ongoing stress.

This is a fear of being judged or not performing well in situations like work presentations, academic tasks, or sports competitions. The pressure to do well can cause physical tension, racing thoughts, and self-doubt before or during the event.

Each type of anxiety is valid and treatable. Therapy can help you understand what’s happening, respond differently, and feel more in control of your life. And here at Narra, we offer anxiety therapy in Victoria or online throughout BC, so you can access support in a way that works for you.

How Anxiety Counselling Can Help

Therapy for Anxiety may Support You in:

At Narra Counselling, our work begins with understanding how anxiety is showing up for you physically, mentally, and emotionally. Together, we’ll create space to unpack what’s beneath the worry and explore tools that are realistic and sustainable in your day-to-day life.

Noticing anxious patterns with more compassion, not shame

✔ Learning how to calm your body and settle your thoughts

✔ Unpacking past experiences that shaped your sense of safety

✔ Finding ways to feel more present and in control again

✔ Letting go of constant self-monitoring and fear of getting it wrong

You do not need to be in crisis to begin. Many people come to therapy because they are tired of carrying the tension all the time.

Counselling for anxiety can be a safe, steady place to begin untangling it.

What Anxiety Counselling Looks Like at Narra Counselling

You do not need to have the right words or a clear plan. You just need to show up. We take a personalized approach that honours your pace, your experiences, and what feels possible right now.

Here’s what that might include:

  • A calm, grounded space where you can explore what’s been weighing on you
  • Support in setting healthy boundaries and navigating what’s keeping you stuck
  • Simple, manageable tools to reduce overwhelm and bring clarity to your days
  • Exploring what triggers your anxiety so you can respond instead of react
  • Replacing fear-based patterns with practices that actually support you
  • Gently rebuilding your confidence, focus, and emotional resilience

This is not about becoming someone new. It is about coming home to yourself, little by little, without anxiety running the show.

Our evidence-based treatment approach

At Narra Counselling, we draw from a range of evidence-based methods that are tailored to your unique needs and goals. Depending on what feels right for you, sessions may include:

This approach focuses on identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to worry, self-doubt, and fear. Over time, CBT helps build healthier thinking habits, reduce anxious responses, and improve emotional regulation.

Mindfulness practices support individuals in staying present rather than feeling overwhelmed by future concerns or past regrets. Techniques such as breathwork, body scans, and grounding exercises allow individuals to observe anxious thoughts with more clarity and less judgment, helping reduce mental and emotional tension.

Because anxiety often manifests physically, body-based tools are integrated to help calm the nervous system. Grounding techniques, breath regulation, and somatic awareness exercises are used to support the body’s ability to recover from stress and return to a more settled state.

Many individuals with anxiety have experienced past events that continue to impact their nervous system. A trauma-informed approach recognises the link between anxiety and unresolved trauma, offering a safe and respectful space to explore patterns and responses at a manageable pace.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach here.
We’ll work together to find what resonates with you, and we’ll adapt along the way.

Counsellor (Pre-Licensed) - Sliding Scale Available
I have a particular passion for working with youth and neurodivergent individuals, understanding the unique challenges and strengths they bring, as I navigate my own neurodivergence. Collectively these parts make me who I am and keep me grounded in the culture I was brought up in and how vastly different it can be in supporting people across the globe!

Instead of trying to erase fear, therapy helps you learn how to live with it, without letting it lead.

Over time, you might begin to feel:

  • More aware of what triggers your anxiety
  • Less urgency and pressure in your daily routines
  • A softer inner voice replacing the inner critic
  • Confidence in setting boundaries or speaking up
  • The ability to slow down without guilt
  • More peace in quiet moments, not just distraction

Progress may be gradual, but each step adds up.
Even a quiet change can bring big relief.
