About
Yasmeen Al-Samarrai
Ever feel like your thoughts are a bit of a jumbled mess, and you’re trying to sort through it all? That’s often where I connect with people. Through my journey of completing my bachelors of science in psychology at the University of Toronto, to completing my master’s degree in counselling at Gonzaga University I never forget what it means to be a middle eastern woman today. I’ve already spent valuable time supporting individuals across different age groups in a multitude of setting of over 7 years of mental health support. I have a particular passion for working with youth and neurodivergent individuals, understanding the unique challenges and strengths they bring, as I navigate my own neurodivergence. Collectively these parts make me who I am and keep me grounded in the culture I was brought up in and how vastly different it can be in supporting people across the globe!
Here for You
Whether its helping young people navigate their world, supporting neurodivergent individuals in thriving, or assisting adults through the complexities of life’s journey, I bring a practical and down-to-earth approach to understanding what makes us tick. I also enjoy working with couples, helping them build stronger connections and navigate relationship dynamics. My philosophy in counselling is simple: your experience is unique, and our work together should reflect that. I’m passionate about creating a space where you feel truly seen and heard, empowering you to take the lead in your own growth. My approach draws from various therapeutic frameworks to best support your needs. I often incorporate Reality Therapy, a framework focused on making actionable change, to help clients identify their goals and take steps towards achieving them. Additionally, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to explore the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and integrate elements of Existential Therapy to delve into deeper questions of meaning, purpose, and freedom. Think of me as your supportive guide, ready with a range of techniques and a genuine sense of curiosity about your world. Ultimately, I believe in your capacity for positive change (in whatever that looks like for you), and I’m here to collaborate with you every step of the way.
