Limited Time Only: Our Intro Offer
Growing up is tough — therapy gives us the tools to understand and cope.
Growing up can feel overwhelming. Big feelings. Heavy silence. Outbursts that don’t make sense. And sometimes, others don’t see it. On the outside, they may seem fine—inside, it’s a different story.
Growing up comes with challenges that can feel bigger than words. For children and teens, emotions can be overwhelming, confusing, or hard to express. Sometimes it shows up as anger or withdrawal. Other times, it’s worries, tears, or struggles at school and home. As a parent or caregiver, it can be hard to know what’s really going on beneath the surface.
Counselling can support children and youth who are experiencing things like:
- Difficulty managing big emotions like anger, sadness, or fear
- Changes in behaviour at home or school
- Struggles with friendships, bullying, or fitting in
- Worry, self-doubt, or low confidence
- Trouble sleeping or frequent complaints of stomachaches or headaches
- Withdrawal, isolation, or loss of interest in things they used to enjoy
- Challenges coping with family changes such as separation, loss, or moving
- Feeling pressure to meet expectations at school, in sports, or at home
If this sounds familiar, counselling can give your child or teen a safe space to explore what they’re going through, learn healthy ways to express themselves, and develop coping tools that will support them as they grow.

How Child and Youth Therapy Can Help
Therapy for children and youth may support them in:
At Narra Counselling, our work begins with understanding your child’s unique experiences — how their feelings show up in their body, thoughts, and behaviours. Counselling creates a safe, supportive space where children and teens can make sense of what they’re going through, while also giving parents tools to support them at home.
✔ Expressing feelings in ways that feel safe and healthy
✔ Learning skills to calm their body and manage strong emotions
✔ Building confidence and a stronger sense of self
✔ Developing problem-solving and coping tools for school, friendships, and home life
✔ Understanding and processing family changes, transitions, or past experiences
✔ Strengthening communication with parents and caregivers
Your child doesn’t need to be in crisis to begin. Many families seek counselling because they notice their child struggling with worries, emotions, or behaviours and want support before it gets heavier. Counselling can be a steady place for children and youth to learn, grow, and feel more resilient.
Our evidence-based treatment approach
At Narra Counselling, we use a range of evidence-based approaches that are tailored to your child’s age, needs, and goals. Sessions are designed to be engaging and supportive, helping children and teens feel safe while learning tools they can carry into everyday life.
Depending on what fits best, counselling may include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Building awareness of unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, and practicing healthier ways to cope
Attachment-Based Approaches
Strengthening your child’s sense of security and connection with caregivers, which lays the foundation for emotional well-being
Narrative Therapy
Helping children reframe unhelpful stories they may be telling themselves (like “I’m not good enough”) and discover more empowering ones
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Teaching skills to accept difficult feelings, connect with values, and take positive steps forward
We also work from a trauma-informed lens, recognizing that behaviours often have roots in past experiences. That means we prioritize emotional safety, go at a pace that feels right, and invite both children and families to be active partners in the process.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here. We’ll work together to find what resonates with your child — and adapt as they grow and change.

Children and teens don’t always express what’s going on inside, and behaviours can sometimes signal underlying struggles. Counselling can help if your child is experiencing:
Emotional or behavioural changes: Frequent outbursts, withdrawal, irritability, or mood swings
Anxiety or worry: Persistent worry, perfectionism, or avoidance of social situations
School or learning challenges: Trouble focusing, completing assignments, or adjusting to changes
Physical or somatic complaints: Headaches, stomachaches, or trouble sleeping
Family or social difficulties: Struggling with friendships, conflicts at home, or coping with family changes
Counselling isn’t just for crises—many families seek support to help their child build coping skills, confidence, and resilience before challenges grow.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is each counselling session?
Sessions are 50 minutes and take place online through a secure video platform, so children, teens, and families across British Columbia can access support from home.
Do parents or caregivers join the sessions?
It depends on your child’s needs. Some sessions may focus just on your child, others may include parents, and often we use a mix of both. We’ll decide together what feels most supportive for your child and family.
How many sessions will my child need?
Every child is different. Some benefit from a handful of sessions focused on specific concerns, while others find longer-term support helpful as they grow. We’ll check in regularly and adjust the plan together.
What if I’m not sure what’s going on with my child?
That’s okay! You don’t need all the answers before coming to counselling. Together, we can explore what your child is experiencing and find ways to support them.
