Inner Currents: Explore Your Emotions
“Emotions can get in the way or get you on the way.”- Mavis Mazhura
“What seems like a reaction to some present circumstance is, in fact, a reliving of past emotional experience.” - Gabor Maté
1. Get to know your emotions
Take a moment to explore the emotions arising within you. Use the feelings wheel on the left and begin exploring the inner wheel to help identify emotions you're experiencing intensely. Then, move to the outer wheel to pinpoint more specific emotions resonating with your current state.
2. Pay attention to its message
Once you've identified these emotions, notice how intensely they arise for you and how often they show up. Give each one a rating out of 10. Consider what they might be trying to communicate to you. Emotions often serve as messengers, signaling our needs, desires, or concerns. For instance, feelings of anger might indicate a sense of disrespect or abandonment, prompting you to prioritize selfcare and boundary-setting.
3. Revisit the past
Moreover, these emotions may also be linked to past experiences that have shaped your emotional landscape. Reflect on significant life events that have influenced the way you perceive and express emotions today. For example, if you've experienced abandonment in the past without receiving the necessary reassurance, you may carry those unresolved feelings into your present experiences.
By acknowledging and understanding the messages behind your emotions, you can gain valuable insights into your inner world and work towards healing and self-discovery.
